Charlotte Mellis Logo and Photo of A Corrugated Shed on Mull

Hello

I use hand building techniques to make constructions in clay. These relate to corrugated and other architectural structures which have seen happier days and are unsung, quirky or suffering from the ravages of time.

Graffiti, weathering and decomposition create colours and textures which can be expressed using earthenware clays, low fired to 1080c in an electric kiln. I use moulds to get the corrugated surfaces, slips, oxides and underglaze colours with the occasional splash of transparent glaze.

I also make wheel thrown bowls and moulded Big Dishes.

Exhibitions are coming up at The Art Gallery at Mellerstain House in the Borders from 3rd July - 28th Sept 2011and in the Collins Gallery in Glasgow in October 2011. You can view a gallery of some of the exhibits from the Shelter exhibition at An Tobar in Tobermory by clicking here. Please note that these links will open in a new window.
